Under Cray Wood
The Victorian and I have a saying
Under Cray Wood
It means just the world in the length of an arm
I am the miller of Cray Wood and this is my wheel
though it looks like a daisy. I am the postman of Cray Wood -
these leaves are my letters. I am a plumber of Cray Wood
and these hollow stems are my pipes. I am the
Princess of
Cray Wood - I ride on an earwig, dried petals for hair. I am
a soldier
This grass blade’s my sword and this plantain my spear
and this acorn cup is my helmet today although yesterday
it was a chalice and was found by the girl who sits on the spider
webs under Cray Wood and tests them for bounce - if they caught
her they’d eat her with kisses down in the shadows Under Cray
Wood she was fetching some water and fought off a beetle
to get to the dew that was shining
a rainbow of coloured lights Under Cray Wood
